It appears that the tech behemoth will provide details about the impending AI features for Windows and select Surface devices.Earlier this month, Microsoft informed that it will hold an event on March 21 to introduce several AI features for Windows 11 and Surface devices. The digital event, titled “New Era of Work,” is scheduled for tomorrow at 9:00 am PDT (10:30 pm IST).
While the March 21 event will be business-focused, the consumer-oriented Surface Laptop 6 and Surface Pro 10 may be revealed at the special May 2024 event. These laptops are believed to be powered by Qualcomm Snapdragon X Elite processors, which also include specialised neural processing units to improve AI-driven operations on Windows 11.
On the software front, Microsoft appears to be preparing to introduce several new features, the most anticipated of which is the “AI Explorer,” an upcoming functionality that may allow Windows 11 users to use the power of generative AI to search for previous actions, similar to the now-deprecated Timeline feature on Windows 10
The tech titan has declared that 2024 will be “the year of the AI PC.” While hardware partners such as Intel, AMD, and Qualcomm appear to be ready to embrace AI PCs, Microsoft has yet to reveal how and when Windows will make use of recent hardware breakthroughs. At the recent HP Amplify Partner Conference in Las Vegas, Microsoft CEO Satya discussed the revolutionary potential of AI with HP CEO Enrique Lores.
Meanwhile, Microsoft has also stated that it will disclose more information about its AI programmes, so we may see some additional announcements regarding Copilot. The company last held a Surface event in September 2023, when the company introduced new devices such as the Surface Laptop Studio 2, Surface Laptop Go 3, and Surface Go 4.
