In 2011, Apple introduced a feature called ‘My Photo Stream’ that automatically syncs up to 1,000 photos or videos from the last 30 days so users can access their latest photos from various Apple devices like iPhone, iPad and Mac anytime.
However, in a recent blog post, the tech giant announced that ‘My Photo Stream’ is scheduled to shut down on July 26 this year. Apple also said it will disable new photo uploads to ‘My Photo Stream’ a month prior to the service shutting down. Also, any photos you have previously uploaded to the service will remain in iCloud for 30 days from the date of upload and will be available on all devices where the feature is enabled.
To give you a quick recap, ‘My Photo Stream’ requires users to save media to their camera roll, after which they are available for around a month before being deleted. And unlike iCloud Photos, the service does not sync photos in full resolution.
Apple says pictures in ‘My Photo Stream’ are stored on at least one of your devices, meaning users won’t lose any of their photos even after the service is shut down. In case a picture you want in your library isn’t available on a particular device, simply save it to your library before July 26 and you are good to go.
To save pictures from ‘My Photo Stream’ to your iPhone, open the ‘Photos’ app and navigate to My Photo Stream album. Now, select the photos you want to save, tap on the Share button, press the ‘Save Image’ option and you are good to go. The process is more or less the same on Mac, but instead of the ‘Share’ button, users need to drag images from ‘My Photo Stream’ to the Library.
