From iPod Touch to iPhone mini, we have come a long way in terms of technological advancements. There are several tech products that have been live for more than a decade, but they were killed in 2022 because people now have modern tech solutions. So, they have lost interest in older iconic services. Let’s take a quick look at five major tech products that died this year.
5 major tech products that died in 2022
-Apple discontinued its iPod Touch in May this year. It is one of the iconic devices that will always be remembered for changing the way people could listen to music. It was the first MP3 player device in the world that offered a set of 1,000 songs with a promise of a 10-hour battery. The idea of giving people a device to listen to an end number of songs worked greatly for the company and the device remained popular even after the launch of the first iPhone. The original iPod Touch was introduced in 2001 and Apple later launched several versions with a modern design. The last one had a lot of resemblance with the iPhone 4 and people were also given the option to play games or do other things. Nowadays, people have YouTube Premium and other streaming apps, which has ended the need to use iPod Touch.
-Apple also gave up on the iPhone mini version this year, which was not at all surprising. The mini version was introduced to offer users a more affordable version of the flagship phones. While the price was low, Apple was not offering enough features in the Rs 40,000 range. The handset had a 5.4-inch display, which is very compact. The design was also pretty outdated. All this didn’t work in favour of Apple because people were getting better specifications and experience with several Android devices. So, the sales of the mini version were also reportedly pretty low. It was not surprising that Apple decided to kill the mini series.
-Internet Explorer is dead too. It has been alive for more than two decades and Microsoft decided to kill the older browser to offer users a better, secure, as well as faster internet browser to people with the introduction of a new Edge browser. Internet Explorer was introduced around 25 years back and it is gone for good.
-Blackberry, which is one of the most iconic smartphone brands, also died this year. This was expected to happen way too soon because of the aggressive competition, and Blackberry was not able to keep up with the fight. In December last year, the brand announced that the legacy services for BlackBerry 7.1 OS and earlier, BlackBerry 10 software, BlackBerry PlayBook OS 2.1, and earlier versions, will no longer be available after January 4, 2022. The company even said that people might not be able to use data, or make calls properly after the mentioned date. So, the brand is completely dead and there doesn’t seem to be any ray of sunshine for the revival of Blackberry.
-Google Stadia is not completely dead, but the company has announced that it has decided to kill its cloud gaming service because its product didn’t gain the traction that it was expecting. So, Google “made the difficult decision to begin winding down the Stadia streaming service.” It will remain available until January 18 next year, which is not too far away.
