WhatsApp allows users to turn off read receipt on chats as well as on Stories. But after turning off the view receipt, you also cannot see the viewers on your status. Here are some tricks you can view without letting the other person know.
By Divya Bhati: WhatsApp is one of the most popular instant messaging apps with around 2 billion active user base. Catering to the huge user base, the Meta-owned app offers a variety of other features other than messaging and calling for better user experience. These features include group calling, community features and sharing status. The WhatsApp Status feature is similar to that of Instagram and Facebook and allows you to share text, photo, video, and GIF updates that disappear after 24 hours, and that is also end-to-end encrypted.
If someone posts a WhatsApp story, they can see the name of the person who has viewed it. While the feature does let us know of people who are viewing your daily status updates, we often sometimes wish to remain hidden when we check someone’s stories. And to help you with that privacy, WhatsApp has a feature to help you view a story without coming in the viewers’ list. Let’s look at all the possible ways through which we can check WhatsApp stories without letting the other person know.
Disable WhatsApp read-receipt
Turning off read-receipts will not only turn off blue ticks in your chat but will also allow you to view someone’s status without letting them know. However, after turning off read-receipt you also won’t be able to see the views on your WhatsApp status.
To turn off read-receipt-
- Open WhatsApp on your smartphone
- Tap the three-dot menu at the top right corner and select Settings.
- Click on Accounts and select Privacy.
- Now disable the toggle for Read Receipts.
View WhatsApp story offline
- Open WhatsApp and wait for a few minutes to let the app load the Stories.
- Now turn off WIFI or mobile data in your phone and open the story you want to view.
Turn on incognito mode
If you are using WhatsApp desktop, switch to incognito mode and open your WhatsApp for web. You will be able to see the stories without letting the other person know.
Open WhatsApp file in File Manager
For Android users there’s one more way to view WhatsApp stories. You can access all your WhatsApp media saved in the WhatsApp folder. For that-
- Open File Manager > Internal Storage > WhatsApp > Media.
- Now open the folder named ‘Statuses.’
- In this folder, you will be able to see images or videos shared by contacts on WhatsApp.
In Short
- WhatsApp launched Stories similar to Instagram and Facebook in 2017.
- The meta-owned app also offers security features like turning off read-receipts for Stories.
- Users can also control the viewers list and check who can see their Status and who can’t.
