Samsung likely building its own ChatGPT-like AI service, here is why

Samsung is reportedly planning to build its own ChatGPT-like AI service to help employees with coding and boost productivity. The new service is said to be built just for internal usage, so that the company can supervise activities to ensure security. As reported by The Economist Korea, multiple employees of Samsung’s Korea-based semiconductor business “leaked” sensitive information to ChatGPT, which could be a big concern in terms of security. Samsung had initially banned ChatGPT on its servers but later reversed the decision to check its reception among employees. The company is reportedly planning to re-introduce the ban after workers fed sensitive information to the chatbot.

As per the report, one employee tried to fix a buggy code with the help of ChatGPT, while another employee tried the same for a different code. After the third employee asked the AI model to summarise meeting notes, the company executives stepped in. The report notes, “Employee C converted the contents of the meeting recorded on his smartphone into a document file through the Naver Clova application (app) and then entered it into ChatGPT. The purpose is to request the preparation of meeting minutes (translated via Google Transalated.”

After Samsung found out that employees were using the AI chatbot at the cost of sharing sensitive information, the company reportedly circulated a note warning workers that data gets stored in external servers and that chatbots can later replicate information in the future.

Even ChatGPT creator OpenAI warns against sharing crucial information. On its website, OpenAI points out, “We are not able to delete specific prompts from your history. Please don’t share any sensitive information in your conversations.”
